Republicans have found their man in NY-01: a failed local candidate who attempted to defy New York election laws in 2020.
Future failed congressional candidate Nicholas LaLota has been backed by the Suffolk County Republican and Conservative parties.
LaLota is no stranger to dead-end campaigns.
In 2020, a state appellate court disqualified him from running for state senate, with Newsday reporting that the Court “said state statute clearly prohibits such a scenario, based on a potential conflict of interest: a commissioner overseeing the tally of a race he’s trying to win.”
In 2022, Long Island voters will send LaLota packing again.
DCCC Spokesperson Abel Iraola
“Republicans on Long Island are so desperate they’ll back anyone to run, even someone who tried to circumvent NY state election laws. It’s pathetic but unsurprising. Long Islanders want informed, ethical and effective leaders who are present in their communities — and for that, they can turn to Democrats.”
