Congressman-elect James Walkinshaw’s resounding win this week – overperforming the 2024 margin by more than 15 points in Northern Virginia – shows Americans are fed up with the GOP’s disastrous agenda and are electing Democrats to set things right.
Since January 2025, data compiled by The Downballot shows Democrats are overperforming their 2024 presidential numbers by an average of 15.7% – a massive trend playing out in red, purple, and blue districts alike. For example, in Florida’s 1st and 6th Congressional Districts – deep-red seats formerly held by Republican firebrands Matt Gaetz and Michael Waltz – Democrats overperformed by 23 points and 16 points, respectively.
The 15.7% overall overperformance in special elections this year compares to a 6% overperformance in the lead up to the 2018 special elections, according to data compiled by The Washington Post.
These election results make clear the American people are rejecting the GOP agenda.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Eight months into a Trump-controlled Washington, Republicans have no meaningful accomplishments. Voters are electing Democrats nationwide to end Republicans’ chaos and corruption – and Democrats will keep making the case while offering a vision for a better America through Election Day 2026.” |
