Earlier today, an article published by the OC Register called out Silent Michelle Steel for refusing to take a stance on the January 6th insurrection as part of a voter guide the publication was compiling. When her campaign was asked directly what the congresswoman thought they declined to respond to the question.
The kicker? When asked the same question, every Democratic candidate agreed that the insurrection was a “serious threat to democracy.”
This isn’t the first time Michelle Steel has demonstrated her sympathies to far-right insurrectionists. In an interview with the New York Times she cast doubt on the legitimacy of the 2020 election and most recently, she voted to allow another January 6th by opposing the Presidential Election Reform Act.
Marcus W. Robinson, DCCC Spokesperson:
“No one should be surprised by Michelle Steel’s silence on this issue. Every single time she has had the chance to do the right thing, she has chosen loyalty to her extremist party instead. Lt. Commander (res.) Jay Chen has spent his life defending this nation and he is the only person in this race who is willing to do what it takes to safeguard our democracy.”
