Former Governor Sam Brownback is starting to endorse 2022 candidates – making it only a matter of time before he backs his close ally and longtime advisor Amanda Adkins.
And it’s for good reason. Let’s take a look at just some of the ways Adkins has supported the disgraced former governor throughout their careers:
-
Adkins’ relationship with Brownback stretches back decades to 1998, when she worked on his first Senate campaign. She managed his second in 2004.
-
When Adkins ran for Kansas Republican Party Chair in 2009, Brownback endorsed her run and they then worked closely to draft the party’s new strategy to expand GOP control in the state.
-
Brownback then appointed Adkins as chair of the Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund, where she worked with the Governor to cover his attempts to cut millions of dollars for critical early childhood programs.
-
Adkins consistently praised his tax agenda – which “tanked” the state’s economy and downgraded the state’s credit rating. The policies were so disastrous, the Governor’s own Republican-dominated legislature had to override the governor’s veto and roll back the tax cuts.
-
Despite his record of failure, Adkins heralded Brownback as an “incredible governor” and personally contributed over $2,500 to the governor’s re-election campaign.
With all the support Adkins has given her disastrous mentor, is he saving his biggest endorsement for last?
DCCC Spokesperson Johanna Warshaw
“Amanda Adkins has spent her career championing Sam Brownback and his disastrous agenda that slashed funding for Kansas schools and tanked the state’s economy. It’s only a matter of time before the disgraced former governor returns the favor with an endorsement for his longtime advisor.”
