“IT’S BLEAK”: In Nasty NJ-09 GOP Primary, Broke and Bruised Candidates Attack Each Other Until the Bitter End

Messy primary has “brought a fair bit of bad blood to the fore”

The GOP primary in New Jersey’s 9th Congressional District is getting increasingly messy in the final stretch of the race.

The New Jersey Globe reports:

  • Tiffany Burress’s supporters are attacking Rosemary Pino as “a political opportunist.”
  • But Burress does come with her own host of vulnerabilities,” including shady finances.
  • The candidates may not make up after primary day: “Relations between the two are bitter enough that Burress wouldn’t commit to supporting Pino if she’s the GOP nominee.”
  • Whoever emerges as the nominee will be broke: “both candidates ended the pre-primary period with more debt than cash on-hand.”
  • And former GOP nominee Billy Prempeh thinks both candidates stink, telling the Globe: “As it stands right now, I have no idea what they stand for or what they want to do… It’s bleak, in my opinion.”

DCCC Spokesperson Eli Cousin:
“In the words of Logan Roy: These are not serious people.”
