It’s the 15th Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act and House Republicans are Still Obsessed with Taking Away Americans’ Health Care

Fifteen years after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, which has helped tens of millions of Americans receive quality, affordable health care, House Republicans continue their neverending crusade to gut the law so they can pay for tax breaks for the wealthy, big corporations and their billionaire backers.

Last month, every single vulnerable House Republican voted for their dangerous budget that would result in the largest cut to Medicaid in history, ripping away health insurance for millions of families and children across the country. Specifically, House Republicans are going after the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion to pay for the GOP Tax Scam 2.0. Eliminating the ACA’s Medicaid expansion would end health coverage for over 20 million Americans.

House Republicans are pushing this plan to gut the Affordable Care Act even though polling shows that 64% of voters support the ACA.

DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene:
“For 15 years, millions of Americans have benefited from the Affordable Care Act, from ensuring insurance companies could no longer deny coverage because of a pre-existing condition, to free preventive care, allowing young people to stay on their parents’ plan, and to capping the annual out-of-pocket costs for people. In addition to these protections, the ACA also extended health coverage to over 20 million people thanks to the Medicaid expansion provision in the law – something House Republicans want to repeal. The Republican efforts to cut Medicaid will hurt millions by ripping away their insurance and robbing people of a basic right everyone should have – affordable, quality health care. Only Democrats are fighting to protect Medicaid and the ACA and that’s why we will retake the majority in 2026.”
