McCarthy’s silence grows louder after Rep. Adam Kinzinger becomes lone House Republican to call for Gaetz’s resignation
Adam Kinzinger is ditching GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz. Still, House Republican leadership remains silent.
In the latest drip, drip in Gaetz’s worsening scandal, The Daily Beast reported overnight that Gaetz is believed to have used the money sharing app Venmo to send $900 with instructions to “hit up” a young woman to his ally who is reportedly seeking a plea deal for federal sex-trafficking charges. According to Venmo records, within 24 hours after receiving Gaetz’s cash, his ally Joel Greenberg paid three young women the same amount of money.
While vulnerable Republican Congressmen David Valadao and Brian Fitzpatrick are donating Gaetz’s toxic campaign cash, most House Republicans remain silent – including GOP leadership. There’s still no word from Rep. Tom Emmer and the NRCC on when they’ll return or donate the $110,000 in campaign cash Gaetz has given the committee or call for his resignation, and no word from Minority Leader McCarthy or Rep. Liz Cheney on the action they’ll take to sanction Gaetz.
DCCC Spokesperson Chris Taylor:
“This isn’t difficult. The House Republican Leadership’s craven silence in the face of a federal sex-trafficking investigation that involves girls and young women is disgracefull. It’s past time for Minority Leader McCarthy, Rep. Tom Emmer, and the NRCC to call on Gaetz to resign.”
