| Today, the DCCC announced that Jake Johnson has been added to the committee’s highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Jake, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as he runs for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District.

The son of a garbage collector and a meter reader, Jake Johnson and his ten siblings grew up in a working class family that worked hard to achieve the American dream while relying on Medicaid and SNAP. Now a public school math teacher and leader in his union, Jake is running for Congress because Southern Minnesota is struggling — and D.C. swamp creature Brad Finstad is making things worse for families like the one he grew up in. Jake will work to bring down costs, tackle corruption, go after wasteful spending and misuse of taxpayer dollars, and invest in Minnesota’s small towns. While Finstad prioritizes special interests and refuses to show up for Minnesotans, Jake will put families and farmers first. In this district won three times by Amy Klobuchar, Jake is the candidate who will flip this seat and bring change to Southern Minnesota.
Jake is running the campaign to flip this historically Democratic seat. Nonpartisan race raters Cook Political and Sabato’s Crystal Ball both shifted this seat in Jake’s direction, noting that this “agriculture-heavy seat” has been pounded by reckless tariffs and the Iran War, and is “home to the Mayo Clinic” and “swing-y Winona County” – all terrain expected to be competitive.
Jake has outraised Finstad in back-to-back quarters and earned the endorsement of former Republican Governor Arne Carlson, as he leans into a message of taking on reckless spending, corruption, and fraud to protect taxpayer dollars and lower the cost of living for families like his own.
