Jake Tapper Calls NRCC Out For Spreading Disinformation

After NRCC staff tweeted a deceptively edited, disproven, and out-of-context video of Vice President Biden, CNN’s Jake Tapper called out the NRCC for actively spreading disinformation.

Tapper On NRCC Disinformation:

The morning after [the video] was debunked, Bob Salera, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee retweeted the clip alongside a slur against Biden.

There used to be a way of shaming political operatives from openly participating in such smears. But apparently that’s no longer the case.

The NRCC’s spokesmen weren’t the only Republicans spreading disinformation this week.

On Monday, Rep. Paul Gosar was widely criticized for disseminating a fake photo of President Obama shaking hands with Iran’s president.

And NRCC Chair Tom Emmer is still refusing to sign a bipartisan pledge not to use hacked materials to attack candidates.

The next time the NRCC gripes about “fake news,” they really should be looking in a mirror.
