Jason Lewis Spent Recess Dodging His Constituents

Vulnerable Rep. Jason Lewis is full of excuses when it comes to his refusal to hold a live town hall meeting in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District. Lewis, who has pledged to hold an in-person town hall for months, just wrapped up a two-week recess break without making good on his promise. Instead, he had more excuses, telling KSTP that he’s been “tied up in Washington” with a “hectic schedule” and has been too busy, despite ongoing pleas from his constituents to meet face-to-face.

What exactly is Rep. Jason Lewis trying to hide?

  • Jason Lewis is a staunch supporter of the Republicans’ disastrous bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which would strip away coverage from 50,200 of his constituents, raise health care premiums and impose an unfair age tax on older Americans.
  • Jason Lewis has consistently sided with President Trump, voting repeatedly to keep his tax returns private, despite mounting support and pressure from the public to force President Trump to release his returns.
  • While Lewis favors President Trump’s privacy, he voted for a bill that would allow internet service providers to sell their customers’ personal browsing history.

“For months, Republican Jason Lewis has said he’s ‘committed’ to holding a town hall, but instead it’s just more broken promises and sorry excuses,” said DCCC spokeswoman Rachel Irwin. “The more Lewis dodges his constituents and votes against their interests, the more vulnerable he becomes. Jason Lewis seems more loyal to President Trump’s reckless agenda than the very people he represents. It’s time he made good on his promise and faced up to his record.”
