Jeanne Ives Continues to Spread COVID-19 Misinformation

“Flame-thrower” Jeanne Ives continues to spread dangerous misinformation about coronavirus and its effects on children. Not once, but twice over the past two days Ives has falsely stated that kids can’t spread the virus as proof that all schools should reopen this fall.

Ives yesterday: “[Kids] are asymptomatic, as a matter of fact, and they’re not super spreaders. There’s been study after study that has proven that to be the case. Adults in the room have to be adults and protect themselves and children have to be children.”

Ives today: “We cannot say it enough, kids need to go back to school… We flattened the curve… and done it all. The virus does not affect children as much. It truly doesn’t, there’s been minimal deaths… Call your superintendents… to go back to school full time.”

Ives’ reckless spreading of misinformation comes despite Illinois being “poised to eclipse 200,000 total cases” by today and despite clear evidence that children are susceptible to the virus.

This isn’t new for Ives. Earlier this spring, Ives appeared on a local radio show where she stated as “a fact” that “children are not susceptible to” the virus and seemingly downplaying the death of a child in Illinois.

Statement from DCCC Spokesperson Courtney Rice:
“It’s clear Jeanne Ives is more interested in scoring cheap political points than ensuring the safety and well-being of Illinois’ children, families, and teachers. If she’s so willing to spread misinformation to pursue her political career, how can anyone trust her to look out for their best interests in Congress?”
