Jeff Denham Shuns the Latino Community by Refusing to Accept Univision and Mi Familia Vota’s Debate

Given the opportunity by Univision and Mi Familia Vota to speak directly to the Latino community on the issues affecting them, Representative Jeff Denham rejected their invitation just because his Democratic challenger, Josh Harder, accepted their request.

Latino voters in California’s 10th Congressional District make up a large percentage of the electorate, but Denham has never made them a priority. Denham can run from debates, but he can’t hide from his record of voting to rip health care away from more than 100,000 of his own constituents, make health care costs less affordable, ripping away protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and abandoning a bipartisan solution for DREAMers. The reality is that Jeff Denham votes in lockstep with Washington Republicans and Donald Trump.

If Congressman Denham is too afraid to face his constituents and debate the issues then he has no business serving in Congress,” said DCCC Hispanic Media Director Javier Gamboa. “The Latino community is an integral part of California’s 10th Congressional District and they too deserve representation in Washington instead of broken promises and outright disrespect. It’s shameful that Denham chose not to appear on a Spanish-language debate, and voters are going to hold him accountable in the midterms.”

Democrats know that turning out the Latino vote is part of a winning strategy in California’s 10th Congressional District. As part of the DCCC’s early and robust investment in turning out the Latino community in key Congressional swing districts, the DCCC launched this week its first general election Spanish-language TV ad in California’s 10th Congressional District.
