Jeff Denham, Steve Knight & David Valadao Fail to Protect DREAMers – Again

With full Republican control of Washington, Jeff Denham, Steve Knight and David Valadao’s failure to deliver carries midterm consequences

Republicans like Congressmen Denham, Knight & Valadao have failed DREAMers again. Vulnerable House Republicans blew past a critical deadline to get 218 signatures on a discharge petition that would have finally forced a vote on legislation to protect DREAMers. Their inexcusable failure came after many lofty promises from vulnerable House Republicans who said they would deliver the signatures necessary to provide certainty for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking, law-abiding young people who were brought here as children, and are in constant fear of deportation.

Jeff Denham promised repeatedly that he had the necessary signatures to pass the bill, basking in the positive press coverage – and then, at the last minute, caving to Republican leadership and failing to deliver.

David Valadao has consistently played up his “efforts” on behalf of the discharge petition, but is nowhere to be found now that it’s failed.

Steve Knight only signed onto the discharge petition after repeatedly being labeled as one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in the country. This, after twice voting to end DACA.

“House Republicans’ latest failure to deliver for DREAMers is made all the more inexcusable by their many empty promises that they would get the signatures and finally protect the hundreds of thousands of hardworking young people who call this country home,” said DCCC Spokesperson Drew Godinich.  “If vulnerable members like Reps. Jeff Denham, Steve Knight and David Valadao can’t get the job done for these young people – while their party fully controls Washington – they have no business serving in Congress.”
