Jen Kiggans and Jarome Bell Downplay the 1/6 Attack on our Democracy in Race to the Far Right

VA-02 candidates Kiggans and Bell are “neck and neck in fundraising” and tearing each other apart as they hobble through the Republican primary

Last week, Jen Kiggans complained she was “sick and tired” of having her out-of-touch agenda and conservative credentials questioned by the GOP base as Jarome Bell is gaining ground in the VA-02 Republican primary.

In a desperate attempt to prove her extreme bona fides on the John Fredericks Show, Kiggans then downplayed the deadly January 6th insurrection, which cost the lives of 5 people and injured 140 law enforcement officers:

Jen Kiggans [11:45]: “We’ve got to be mindful of the mission that we’re on. And the mission that we’re on is saving the country at this point, right? We have seen the damage these guys [Democrats] have done, I think yesterday [January 6] was a staunch reminder as well.”

Kiggans has previously refused to say that President Joe Biden won the 2020 election and said it was “right to question the electoral process.”

Meanwhile, Jarome Bell has repeatedly said the 2020 election was a “coup,” that January 6 was “not an insurrection,” and that the insurrectionists were “patriots” who “did nothing wrong,” and has even “advocated for the execution of people who commit election fraud.

“Jen Kiggans downplayed a deadly riot attacking our democracy and refused to say the 2020 election was free and fair. She’ll say or do anything she thinks will help her get elected – even when it means turning her back on law enforcement officers and undermining our democracy,” said DCCC spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Expect the nasty VA-02 primary fight to only get worse as Kiggans and Bell try to prove who’s more out of step with Coastal Virginia.”
