Freshman Republican Jen Kiggans voted to make an extreme, 30% cut in military aid to U.S. ally Israel days before the brutal terrorist attack as part of a partisan funding bill.
In addition to security assistance, the failed bill would have cut funding to help combat anti-Semitism as well as slashed critical resources for Holocaust education and to help law enforcement respond to hate crimes.
Just outside Virginia’s 2nd Congressional district sits Naval Station Norfolk, headquarters of the Navy’s Fleet Forces Command and home base of the two carrier strike groups that have been deployed to the region after war broke out on October 7.
Despite talking a big game about her support for Israel, Kiggans voted with her extreme colleagues to cut security assistance to Israel by nearly $1 billion.

[Rep. Gerry] Connolly accused Republicans, including Wittman and Kiggans, of voting to cut military aid to Israel by $1 billion “off the top” in a stopgap funding resolution that McCarthy had introduced on Sept. 29, the day before the federal fiscal year ended.

That failed measure would have reduced non-defense discretionary spending by 30% during the 30-day term of the resolution. He said aid to Israel was left vulnerable to the cut under the proposed resolution as part of the State Department’s funding.
