Jen Kiggans Gets Fact Checked for Lies About Inflation Reduction Act

Kiggans again proves she can’t be trusted as she pushes misinformation on legislation to lower prescription drug costs & tackle inflation

Fact check: False.

Jen Kiggans, Republican candidate in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, was corrected for pushing false claims about the Inflation Reduction Act. Kiggans joined fellow Republicans in claiming that “will make the IRS workforce larger than the Pentagon, FBI, State Department, and Customs and Border Patrol, combined” – a claim PolitiFact VA rated “MOSTLY FALSE:”

“Among the Republicans who made this flawed comparison is state Sen. Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach), who is running for the Second District congressional seat held by Rep. Elaine Luria, a Democrat.

[The] comparison is based on his faulty premise that the law will provide $80 billion to “double the size of the IRS, adding an army of 87,000 new enforcement agents.”

PolitiFact has repeatedly debunked similar statements.”

The Democratic legislation will boost American energy production, cut health care and prescription drug costs, tackle inflation, and ensure the wealthiest corporations finally pay their fair share – so it’s no wonder Republicans have to invent lies about the bill to try and explain why they oppose lowering costs for Virginians.

“We all know Jen Kiggans has a complicated relationship with the truth, but flatly lying to Virginians is a new low,” said DCCC spokesperson Monica Robinson. “The truth is Kiggans opposes legislation that caps the cost of prescription drugs for Virginia seniors, tackles inflation, and lowers energy costs. Virginians can’t trust Jen Kiggans to be honest.”
