In a debate on Monday, John Duarte reiterated his support of states imposing harmful limitations on women’s ability to access abortion. If Duarte is elected to Congress, he will be another foot soldier in Republican’s march to strip away abortion rights.
Most alarmingly, Duarte has made it clear that national Republicans’ already-extreme position on abortion wasn’t good enough for him. Instead, he supports an even more dangerous and strict ban in California at 12 weeks. This extremist stance is why Duarte is supported by far-right anti-abortion groups and figures like Californians for Life, which supports an abortion ban even in cases of rape or incest, as well as the same national Republicans threatening to impose a nationwide abortion ban if they take majorities in the House this election.
“When it comes to opposing abortion rights, John Duarte showed his true colors this week,” said DCCC spokesperson Marcus W. Robinson. “Duarte supports government-imposed bans on women’s bodies. His anti-freedom agenda has no place in the Central Valley or in Congress and that’s why voters will reject him this November. ”
