John Katko is Either Completely Clueless about House Republican-led Dysfunction or Not Being Straight With Voters

As House Republicans continue to wrestle with disarray within their caucus, Congressman John Katko is either clueless about the unprecedented levels of dysfunction in Congress or he is not being straight with voters. In a recent interview, Katko argued that House Republican-led dysfunction “might actually help us get things done.” While airport security legislation is important, Katko has fallen in line with House Republicans to punt on passing a bipartisan budget to keep the government open or raising the debt ceiling.

“Either John Katko is completely clueless about the unprecedented level of dysfunction his caucus has brought upon Congress, or he is desperately trying to sweep his party’s failed track record of gridlock under the rug,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “Despite running on an anti-dysfunction theme last year, Katko is now falling in line with his House Republican colleagues as they punt on pressing challenges and imminent deadlines, like averting a government shutdown and ensuring that the U.S. pays its bills on time.”

A recent Politico article highlighted the economic ramifications of House Republican-led disarray in Congress, equating the unprecedented level of dysfunction as “the political equivalent of a dumpster fire.”

Last year, Katko’s campaign ran on a theme of criticizing gridlock and dysfunction in Washington.

“Middle-class families and small businesses in Central New York deserve better than failed leadership from Congressman Katko,” added Lesswing.
