The Trump-Katko Tax Scam of 2017, which had a disproportionately negative impact on New York families, will continue to be a noteworthy issue in the race in New York’s 24th Congressional District this cycle. And according to the Auburn Citizen “nearly three years later, Katko stands by that vote.”
Katko was one of just four New York Republicans to vote for Trump’s tax law that offshores jobs and makes millionaires and billionaires even richer while punishing working New York families – which is why New York Republicans like Peter King opposed the law.
Additionally, the GOP planned to pay for their corporate tax cut by cutting Social Security and Medicare.
Here’s What Katko’s Defending:
- Katko’s 2017 vote for the Republican tax law gave huge tax cuts to the super rich and massive corporations, including powerful drug manufacturers. Big Pharma got a $40 billion tax cut.
- The bill added trillions to the national debt and slammed central New Yorkers by capping the property tax deduction. Washington Republicans planned to pay for the bill by cutting Social Security, Medicare and other benefits for the most vulnerable.
- The Trump-Katko Tax Bill added 2 trillion dollars to national debt.
- And last month, Trump admitted that Katko and Washington Republicans intended the tax bill to fully dismantle the Affordable Care Act and rip away protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
“Despite study after study proving the negative impact of the Trump-Katko 2017 Tax Scam, John Katko continues to double-down and defend his vote to give massive tax cuts to the drug manufacturers funding his campaign and to put Social Security and Medicare at risk,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett. “It’s a shame.”
