Johnson promises to kill the CHIPS Act while visiting NY-22, a district that would see nearly 50,000 new jobs as a result of the legislation
Speaker Mike Johnson revealed House Republicans’ plan to repeal the CHIPS and Science Act today.
Johnson shared this plan mere miles away from the future site of Micron’s investment in Clay, NY, one of the largest projects in the country started as a result of CHIPS Act investments – the project is slated to create nearly 50,000 jobs.
This legislation has delivered historic investments in American manufacturing, spurring the reshoring of jobs and strengthening the nation’s domestic supply chain. Nationally, the CHIPs Act has:
-
Spurred the creation or expansion of 83 new semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain facilities across the country.
-
Attracted $447 billion in private investments across 25 states, boosting America’s chip manufacturing capacity while reducing our dependence on importing chips.
-
Expanded opportunities at more than 50 community colleges to help workers access these job opportunities.
And Johnson wants to take it all away. This new look at House Republicans’ agenda comes days after Johnson revealed plans to gut the Affordable Care Act.
DCCC Spokesperson Viet Shelton:
“Most politicians usually go to a community promising to create jobs in the town they’re visiting… Mike Johnson, ever the trendsetter, decided to visit a town and promise to kill jobs in that town. This is what losing the majority looks like.”
