Jolly Throws Stop Act Bill Under the Bus, then Drives Back Over it Again

Now that David Jolly is back running in Florida’s 13th Congressional District, having given up on his Senate ambitions, it is clear he has given up on his short-lived crusade to change how money is raised in political campaigns.  David Jolly threw his bill to prevent members of Congress from personally soliciting funds under the bus when pictures of his first fundraiser surfaced on Facebook. This is in spite of him recently confirming with the Sunlight Foundation that he would not personally solicit funds for his congressional race.

Jolly then drove back over the spirit of the bill today when he accepted the endorsement of Congressman Vern Buchanan, who is infamous for his horrid record on campaign donations. The FEC found that Vern Buchanan’s former company violated the law and pressured employees into donating to Buchanan’s campaign, promising to pay them back. This was a clear violation of campaign finance rules.

“David Jolly’s hypocrisy on campaign finance reform is a prime example of why people distrust Washington,” said DCCC Spokesman, Jermaine House. “Jolly is a showboating hypocrite for pretending to care about fixing our broken campaign finance system only when it became clear his Senate campaign would fail. Now Jolly will shamelessly abandon his own standards for a shot at a district even he said no Republican can win.”
