Juan Ciscomani Stands With Conspiracy Theorists, Refuses To Say Biden Is Duly Elected President

This weekend, AZ-06 GOP candidate Juan Ciscomani once again fell in line with MAGA extremists and conspiracy theorists.

In an interview with the Arizona Daily Star, Ciscomani refused to say that Joe Biden was the elected president of the United States, even when pressed multiple times:

Host: “Is Joe Biden the duly elected President of the United States?”

Ciscomani: “Joe Biden is sitting in the White House right now and we’re seeing the consequences of that. […] So no one’s denying that Joe Biden is in the White House and we’re going to have him there for two more years. Now, when you talk about voting laws though, there are things that we can do better. […] This district actually has gone through very close elections in the past in different cycles and I think with the higher threshold on the recount, some of these things could be dealt with and going into the immediate recount process vs. a lot of the speculation that happened in 2020.”

The host attempts to repeatedly clarify Ciscomani’s sprawling and obfuscatory answer, and Ciscomani staunchly refuses to directly answer.

Host: “I don’t want to get into semantics, but you phrased it as in ‘Joe Biden is in the White House’ so that could be construed as [unintelligible] complete fraud. Do you think that Biden was duly elected president?”

Ciscomani: “Joe Biden is sitting in the White House today, Curt, and no one is denying that. I’m not going to get into what exactly happened in 2020. There are people still having conversations and many fights and division around that.”

[…]

Host: “Okay we’re getting a bunch of people asking for a direct answer of was the 2020 election stolen by Biden?”

Ciscomani: “I’ve given you my answer.”

Host: “And your answer is that he’s in the White House?”

Ciscomani: “My answer is that he’s in the White House, my answer is that I’m looking for 2022 and winning this election, earning the votes, and worrying about my campaign in 2022 and looking forward.”

This is hardly surprising for Ciscomani, who has a long track record of siding with dangerous MAGA Republicans. Ciscomani has been uncompromising in his opposition to reproductive rights: He wants to make abortion illegal and cheered the end of Roe v. Wade, calling the Supreme Court’s decision “historic.” When pressed, Ciscomani refused to denounce white nationalist and violent rhetoric from his would-be colleagues in the Arizona congressional delegation, saying that they were just “reflecting the people they represent.”

DCCC Spokesperson Monica Robinson
“Juan Ciscomani is not only too spineless to stand up to extremists, he’s too spineless to tell Arizonans what he actually believes. If he can’t give a straight answer to such a simple question, how are voters supposed to trust him to deliver for them? The simple answer: they can’t. Ciscomani is too extreme and too untrustworthy for Arizona.”
