Juan Ciscomani Wants to Raise Costs on Rural Communities

House Republicans dramatically underfund nutrition and rural assistance programs

Yesterday, Juan Ciscomani voted to advance yet another dangerous funding bill to the House floor, this time targeting families struggling with food insecurity and cutting support for rural families facing high costs.

Ciscomani’s bill would decimate food assistance funding for families, underfunding WIC by $462 million and jeopardizing support for the nearly 6.6 million women and children who benefited from the program in 2023.

Ciscomani also voted to raise costs on rural families by cutting critical investments in their communities, including:

  • The USDA home loans program designed to help rural homebuyers, underfunding the program by 24%.

  • Eliminating grants for farm labor housing – hurting farmworkers and farmers.

  • Cuts USDA programs that help support relief from high energy costs by 90%.

  • Cuts water and waste grants to help families in rural areas access clean reliable drinking water, cutting the program by $35 million.

House Republicans – led by Juan Ciscomani – are hellbent on raising costs for working families nationwide.

DCCC Spokesperson Lauryn Fanguen:
“Juan Ciscomani has clearly forgotten why Arizonans sent him to Congress in the first place. Voters want leaders that actually deliver for them instead of Ciscomani who is more interested in raising costs on food, utilities, housing, and other essentials.”
