Kansas Abortion Results a Warning to Oregon Republicans

Alek Skarlatos, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Mike Erickson’s anti-choice agenda isn’t just dangerous – it’s politically toxic

Last night, Kansans turned out in record numbers to protect a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, sending a clear message to Republicans working to institute abortion bans: we will vote you down.

This spells bad news for Oregon Republicans, as their party plots to institute a nationwide abortion ban and Alek Skarlatos, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Mike Erickson are forced to defend their dangerous positions in a state that overwhelming supports a woman’s right to choose.

Here is a list of some of the GOP candidates extreme abortion stances:

  • Alek Skarlatos said ‘go for it’ on overturning Roe v. Wade and proudly accepted the endorsement of the extremist group Oregon Right to Life, which wants to ban abortion even in cases of rape or incest;

  • Lori Chavez-DeRemer backs an extreme, near-total ban on abortion and is endorsed by extremist anti-abortion group National  Right to Life, which wants to ban abortion without exceptions for rape or incest;

  • Mike Erickson has campaigned on a “strict anti-abortion platform” and wants to ban abortion even in cases of rape or incest.

DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:
“Oregon Republicans can no longer dodge or deflect by claiming voters aren’t motivated by Republicans’ plans to restrict abortion. Alek Skarlatos, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Mike Erickson will have to reckon with their own dangerous anti-choice positions when Oregonians reject them in November. “
