Reminder that Katko says one thing to Central New Yorkers, does the opposite in Washington
Today, John Katko once again went back on his promise and sided with his extreme House Republican colleagues to defund Planned Parenthood.
Last month, John Katko voted to defund Planned Parenthood, breaking a promise he made to Central New York voters during his 2014 campaign.
Beyond breaking his word, Katko’s far-right positions are out of step with Central New York. Seven in ten voters in New York’s 24thcongressional district self-identify as pro-choice, according to a poll conducted earlier this year by Civis Analytics. Earlier in August, dozens of advocates gathered in Syracuse to urge John Katko to reject House Republican efforts to defund the women’s health program.
“John Katko once again broke his promise to Central New Yorkers and voted to defund Planned Parenthood, siding with his extreme House Republican colleagues over the 7 in 10 voters in New York’s 24th congressional district who self-identify as pro-choice,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “John Katko is squarely at odds with his constituents, and by continuing to say one thing in the district and do the opposite in Washington he has shown that can’t be trusted to look out for Central New York women and families.”
Health care experts also recently highlighted how Planned Parenthood serves a unique role in communities for providing health care access to women.
