Reacting to Trump’s attacks against Khan military family, Katko doesn’t even name Trump
Reacting to Donald Trump’s attack on the parents of Army Captain Humayun Khan, a Purple Heart hero who tragically died in Iraq, Congressman John Katko wouldn’t directly condemn Trump.
In fact, Katko didn’t even mention Trump by name.
Meanwhile, Katko’s neighboring colleague Republican Congressman Richard Hanna became the first House Republican to announce he could not in good conscience vote for Trump and would be supporting Clinton. According to a report, “[Hanna] decided to take action this week after watching Trump criticize the Muslim American parents of a U.S. Army captain killed in Iraq, he said.”
“Donald Trump’s hate and disrespect for the American people, including Gold Star families, knows no limits. What’s worse is that Congressman John Katko can’t even call out Trump by name. If Katko can’t even stand up to a bully like Donald Trump, then it sends a clear message that he lets party loyalty cloud critical decisions about the future of our country and shows whose side he is really on.” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC.
Katko is already wearing the Trump jersey. He pledged to support his party’s nominee earlier this year, and attended a meeting with Trump in Washington last month.
“Denunciations mean little unless you act on them. At the end of the day, Katko still won’t rule out supporting Trump and that just shows that he is wrong for central New York,” added Lesswing.
