Katko Silent on Explosive Allegations That Trump Sought Foreign Help To Win Reelection

Katko Touts His Anti-Corruption Credentials When It’s Convenient, But Won’t Stand Up To His Party When It Matters

Today former Trump administration official John Bolton’s now infamous book will allege that President Trump sought help for his reelection from China’s Xi Jinping, and this “is just one of many instances described by Bolton in which Trump seeks favors or approval from authoritarian leaders.”

Noticeably silent in condemning this clear abuse of power? Congressman John Katko. As a reminder, Katko is closer to Donald Trump than ever, and observers have noted a “rightward shift in Katko’s record” this year. Katko endorsed Trump for re-election in 2020 after refusing to vote for him in 2016. Local press has slammed Katko’s “timid approach” to Trump, saying “it only encourages more abuses of power by the president.”

They aren’t wrong.

“Congressman John Katko’s silence is simply par for the course. Katko claims he’s not beholden to his party and touts his anti-corruption work but, when push comes to shove, he’s backed down time and again from holding the president accountable for his actions,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett.
