Remember when Congressman Katko and Congresswoman Stefanik joined their Republican colleagues in adjourning the House for five weeks last summer? In August, Katko and Stefanik both opted to go home and host high-dollar fundraisers with Speaker John Boehner instead of getting critical work done in Washington — including reauthorizing the Export-Import bank. Now, New York is paying the price of that decision as GE announced plans to send jobs in the region overseas because of the Republican-led Congress’ failure to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank. Employees of GE’s Schenectady location are among the 500 whose jobs are now at risk.
“Because Congressman Katko and Congresswoman Stefanik failed to do their jobs in Washington, workers across the region could lose theirs,” said DCCC spokesman Jeb Fain. “By choosing to fundraise with Boehner instead of reauthorizing the Export-Import bank, they made their real priorities abundantly clear. Now, families in New York are paying the price of the Republican-led Congress’ irresponsibility in Washington.”
