Kean Jr. Uses Position to Push Partisan Political Agenda During Pandemic

Campaign urges local officials to attack opponent’s relief efforts

As New Jersey grapples with an unprecedented health and economic crisis, Senator Tom Kean Jr. plays partisan politics to benefit himself. Kean Jr. is abusing his position in state government to coerce local elected officials to attack his opponent and undermine bipartisan relief efforts, according to emails obtained by the New Jersey Globe.

While Congressman Malinowski was working with a bipartisan group of 54 mayors and freeholders from across the district to secure funds for small towns, Kean Jr.’s campaign pressured local leaders to condemn that critical bipartisan effort.  Sadly, some local officials then bowed to Kean’s pressure, copying partisan press releases and passing resolutions from Kean Jr.’s press kit word-for-word.

Meanwhile Mitch McConnell, who days ago called coronavirus relief to state and local governments “blue state bailouts,” and remains the number one roadblock to this funding, sent an email raising money for Kean’s campaign.  Of course, Kean Jr. has failed to stand up to McConnell’s assault on New Jersey.

“While real leaders are working together to deliver for New Jersey, Tom Kean Jr. is pressuring them to smear his opponent and deliver for him,” said DCCC Spokesperson Christine Bennett.
