Kelly Cooper Bears Responsibility for Arizona’s Near-Total Abortion Ban

Cooper wants an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest and would fight to keep this law in place in Congress

Last night, a judge ruled that a draconian 121-year-old total abortion ban in Arizona must be enforced. The ban mandates two- to five-year prison sentences for doctors and anyone who helps a woman get an abortion.

This cruel effort to ban nearly all abortion in Arizona provides NO exceptions for cases of rape or incest, and is only possible because of the Supreme Court’s decision to end Roe v. Wade. Republican Kelly Cooper cheered the devastating dismantling of Roe v. Wade and 50 years of constitutional protections to protect abortion access, and advocated for an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest – just like the one that is now enforceable in Arizona.

DCCC Spokesperson Monica Robinson:

“Kelly Cooper bears responsibility for this devastating, draconian 19th-century ban that will outlaw abortion in Arizona and threaten doctors with prison time – and if he’s allowed to go to Congress, he’ll do everything in his power to keep this law in place. Arizona women who have been robbed of their right to choose their own futures and make their own health care decisions will show up in force at the ballot box this November.”
