After coming under intense public scrutiny for his decades-long homophobic record following the redrawing of the US’ largest LGBTQ community per capita into his district, Congressman Ken Calvert is suddenly desperate to change his tune as November approaches.
Thanks to redistricting, for the first time in his political career, Calvert faces political consequences for his backwards views. His total about-face in voting for the marriage equality bill last night is only the latest evidence showing Calvert – who is running against Will Rollins, a gay man touting an impressive resume as a federal prosecutor – is terrified about his re-election chances. But no amount of political calculation can erase Calvert’s long history of homophobia:
Calvert can only blame himself for alienating his new district with thirty years of disgraceful stances on LGBTQ rights.
DCCC spokesperson Maddy Mundy:
“As November approaches, Ken Calvert is sprinting away from his own homophobic record in a blatant political calculation to maintain his seat. Riverside County voters won’t be fooled by this bigoted hypocrite.”
