Kevin Coughlin and Chris Banweg have spent their campaigns in Ohio’s 13th Congressional district doubling down on their radical anti-abortion stance, and the two far-right Republicans show no signs of stopping.
In a recent report, both Coughlin and Banweg uplifted their opposition to abortion and avoided clearly stating whether they support exceptions for rape and incest.
On the campaign trail, Coughlin has touted co-sponsoring or voting “for every allowable Roe v. Wade state restriction.”
And while Banweg has dodged questions about reproductive rights in the past, he is now on the record as just another anti-abortion extremist who thinks exceptions for rape and incest should “depend on what is in a particular bill.”
As a reminder, Ohioans completely rejected this anti-abortion rhetoric, “resoundingly” protecting reproductive rights in the state’s constitution last November. OH-13 specifically upheld reproductive freedom by a 24-point margin.
DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
“If it wasn’t clear yet, now there is no denying that Kevin Coughlin and Chris Banweg are a serious threat to Ohioans’ reproductive rights. Asking a candidate whether they believe in exceptions for rape or incest isn’t a trick question, and the fact that neither of these anti-abortion extremists could give a real response is disqualifying in and of itself.”
