Lobbyist Kevin Coughlin admits that the Big, Ugly Law that he enthusiastically supports is a tax cut for billionaires.
In a recent interview, Coughlin said that Democrats opposed the Big, Ugly Law “because [we’re] cutting taxes for billionaires,” even admitting that he “[doesn’t] know how many billionaires there are in the district” – hitting the nail right on the head!
The Big, Ugly Law predominantly benefits billionaires and corporations: 60% of the benefits of the Big, Ugly Law will go to the top 20% of Americans who make more than $217,000 per year, and reduce income for the bottom 20% of households.
And it leaves Northeast Ohio – where the median household income is $67,524 – behind:
- Ripping away health care from more than 31,500 people across OH-13 and raising health care costs.
- Endangering Northeast Ohio’s economy and the 30,000 jobs across hospital systems – the district’s largest employer – like Aultman, Summa, and Mercy Medical, that depend on Medicaid payments to operate.
- Risking access to food for more than 45,500 OH-13 households, over 44% of which have children.
- Rolling back tax credits which will raise Ohioans’ electricity costs.
DCCC Spokesperson Katie Smith:
“A broken clock is right twice a day: lobbyist Kevin Coughlin knows that the Big, Ugly Law gives a huge handout to billionaires and corporations while Northeast Ohio families get the short end of the stick. Voters will reject Coughlin again for putting his special interest donors ahead of Ohioans.” |
