Kevin McCarthy Declares Latest House Republican Effort to Cut Social Security and Medicare

Yesterday, Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced his plan to create a new commission to find cuts to Social Security and Medicare after House Democrats prevented extreme MAGA Republicans from gutting these critical, lifesaving programs during the GOP-manufactured default hostage scenario.

McCarthy previewed his new plans to gut Social Security and Medicare in an interview with Fox News:

McCarthy: We only got to look at 11% of the budget to find these cuts. We have to look at the entire budget.

Harris Faulkner: Why didn’t you see the whole budget?

McCarthy: The President walled off all the others. The majority driver of the budget is mandatory spending, it’s Medicare, Social Security.

Will vulnerable, so-called ‘moderate’ House Republicans support McCarthy’s commission to cut Social Security and Medicare?
