Key Vulnerable Republicans Need to Respond After Trump Calls Immigrants ‘Animals’

Following outrage from President Trump’s comments made yesterday calling immigrants coming to the United States “animals”, we’ve heard nothing from the nation’s most vulnerable GOP members, especially those representing large diverse and immigrant communities. Despite recent media reports that some Republicans are ‘moderating’ on the issue of immigration, their striking silence and inability to pass comprehensive immigration reform despite full Republican control of Washington speaks volumes. Based on the Trump Administration’s track record of going after the immigrant and Latino communities — most notable eliminating DACA — this rhetoric can only be construed as another blatantly racist attack against the immigrant and Latino community.

Today, we’re calling on these key vulnerable House Republicans to address these comments immediately:

CA-10 – Jeff Denham
CA-21 – David Valadao
CA-22 – Devin Nunes
CA-25 – Steve Knight
CA-45 – Mimi Walters
CA-48 – Dana Rohrabacher
CA-50 – Duncan Hunter
CO-03 – Scott Tipton
CO-06 – Mike Coffman
FL-25 – Mario Diaz-Balart
FL-26 – Carlos Curbelo
NY-02 – Pete King
NY-11 – Dan Donovan
TX-07 – John Culberson
TX-23 – Will Hurd
TX-31 – John Carter
TX-32 – Pete Sessions

“Let’s be very clear: Republican control of Washington has resulted in no progress on comprehensive immigration reform and no protections for DREAMers,” said Javier Gamboa of the DCCC. “Despite pretending to stand with immigrants, Republican members’ silence in the face of this race-baiting rhetoric speaks volumes – they must address these comments immediately.”
