Kim Votes to Decimate Nation’s Emergency Alert Systems

Ignoring the needs of communities across the country that depend on public radio and TV for lifesaving emergency alerts, House Republicans fall in line behind GOP scheme to gut the country’s natural disaster alert systems

Young Kim continues to attack critical, lifesaving services for everyday Americans in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy and well-connected. After voting for the Big, Ugly Law that would rip health care away from 3.4 million Californians and endanger thousands of lives, Kim voted to take away $1 billion in funds for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting.

For many parts of the country, public broadcasting serves as the main source for emergency weather alerts to warn people about floods, fires and other natural disasters. It’s a critical system that millions of people depend on. Kim’s vote to gut the funding will jeopardize stations’ ability to maintain these emergency alert systems and endanger public safety.

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“Young Kim continues to endanger the lives of the American people to pay for her tax breaks that benefit her billionaire backers. Gutting rural hospitals wasn’t enough for her, now she is crippling emergency alert services. Because of Kim’s cruelty, Californians’ lives will be endangered.”
