Kirsten Engel will flip AZ-06 blue and help take back the House majority
Today, the DCCC announced that Kirsten Engel has been added to the first round of its highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Kirsten, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as she runs for Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District.
“Kirsten Engel is the pragmatic and solutions-oriented champion Arizonans deserve. She has the experience, grit, and know-how to advocate for issues like water preservation, border control, lowering costs, and abortion rights. Juan Ciscomani has done nothing to help Arizonans, saying one thing to voters at home but doing another while in Congress – including when he voted to restrict abortion access. Voters are ready to elect a proven leader to fight for them, and that’s Kirsten,” said DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene.
Kirsten Engel is a mom, an environmental attorney, and a former State Legislator who has fought for years to restore funding to public schools, protect Arizona’s natural resources, and make her community safer. In the Arizona State Capitol, she built a reputation as a pragmatic leader who will roll up her sleeves to deliver results for Arizona families. Kirsten was less than 6,000 votes shy of winning this seat last cycle, and that was before Juan Ciscomani’s extreme voting record of restricting abortion access and enabling dangerous MAGA Republicans at every turn.
Biden won Arizona’s Sixth Congressional District in 2020 and Cook Political Report names this district as a key toss-up race for 2024. Abortion will likely be on the ballot statewide in Arizona, with abortion rights groups well on their way to collecting the signatures required for the ballot petition.
Red to Blue is a highly competitive and battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue building winning campaigns. Additionally, through Red to Blue the DCCC provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings, and more.
