Kirsten Engel (AZ-06) Added to Competitive DCCC ‘Red to Blue’ Program

Kirsten Engel is the candidate who can keep AZ-06 blue this November

Today, the DCCC announced that Kirsten Engel (AZ-06) has been added to its competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, which arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue to develop strong campaigns and win in November.

Kirsten Engel is an environmental advocate, lawyer, and former state legislator running to keep Arizona’s 6th District blue. As a state legislator Kirsten has taken on some of the toughest battles – from fighting to protect our environment and safeguard clean water, to holding the line against Republican attacks on abortion rights, to investing in Arizona’s public schools and universities. Kirsten also worked for the EPA, and has filed an amicus brief in the very first case that the U.S. Supreme Court recognized greenhouse gas emissions contributed to climate change. Kirsten’s opponent is a hypocritical, Republican rubber stamp who refused to denounce white nationalist and violent rhetoric and supports banning abortion.

Recent polling shows Kirsten Engel has a two point lead over Republican Juan Ciscomani (49-47%). Despite millions in spending on his behalf during the primary, Ciscomani is vulnerable in a head-to-head contest with Engel, especially as voters find him out-of-touch and too extreme for the district. Ciscomani’s support for a federal abortion ban and celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade as “historic” isn’t a winning issue with Arizona voters.

DCCC Spokesperson Monica Robinson
“As a state legislator, a climate lawyer, an advocate, and a mom, Kirsten Engel has always been on a mission to fight for working families and protect her community. Kirsten is committed to leaving our world a better place for our kids to grow up, and she’s taken on lobbyists and extremists alike to fight for our environment, fund our public schools, and protect the right to choose. The DCCC is proud to back Kirsten Engel, and we look forward to working alongside her from now until November.”
