New reporting from the Los Angeles Times reveals that not only did Proposition 50 deliver an “overwhelming” and “decisive victory,” and offer “a stunning rebuke” of the Republican Party – but Democratic enthusiasm in California is at a record high.
Despite Donald Trump’s failed attempts to “coerc[e] — bull[y] and threat[en]” red-state governors and legislatures into partisan redistricting schemes, all he succeeded in doing was screwing over California GOP incumbents and energizing a base ready to deliver the House Majority for Democrats next year.
New polling of likely voters from the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California shows:
- 56% are more enthusiastic than usual about voting in next year’s congressional elections
- 72% of Democratic voters are more enthusiastic about voting, compared to only 38% of Republicans
- Among voters of all political persuasions who expressed higher than usual enthusiasm about House elections:
- 77% said they would support the Democratic candidate
- 79% said Congress should be controlled by Democrats
- 84% disapproved of how the Republican-controlled Congress is handling its job
Overall, the report forecasts “huge party gains seem likely in California next year.”

DCCC Spokesperson Anna Elsasser:
“The numbers don’t lie. After pushing an abysmal agenda that guts health care, drives up costs, and fumbles their control of Congress – Republicans are on track to lose big in California next year.” |
