Lame Duck Paul Ryan Limps into Ohio after Stivers Said No Seats were Vulnerable

Just weeks after NRCC Chairman and Ohio Rep. Steve Stivers said that Democrats are “not going to win any of the districts” in the state, lame duck Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is limping into Ohio to raise money for endangered GOP Congressional candidates.

Ryan’s swing includes events in Dayton and Cincinnati, home to vulnerable incumbents Rep. Steve Chabot and Mike Turner, both of whom were outraised by their Democratic challengers last quarter. This afternoon Ryan is hosting a fundraiser for OH-12 nominee Troy Balderson, who Washington Republicans and special interests already spent $1 million getting through his damaging primary.

Ryan is pushing the eject button on Congress after spearheading efforts to repeal health care including the Medicaid expansion that covers more than 700,000 Ohioans; passing a tax scam that gives a huge break to large corporations while raising health care premiums by an estimated 17% in Ohio next year; and opening the door to cutting Social Security and Medicare to pay for his tax scam.

“Lame duck Speaker Paul Ryan may be bailing on Congress, but Ohio families still have to live with his broadside attacks on their health care coverage, their premiums, and their retirement security,” said DCCC spokesperson Jacob Peters. “Ohio Republican congressional candidates across the state will have to answer for Paul Ryan’s toxic, damaging agenda in November, and no amount of his campaign cash is going to change that.”
