Lanon Baccam Added to DCCC’s Coveted ‘Red to Blue’ Program

Lanon Baccam will flip IA-03 blue and help take back the House majority

Today, the DCCC announced that Lanon Baccam has been added to the first round of its highly competitive ‘Red to Blue’ program, signaling that the DCCC is invested in providing Baccam, a top-tier candidate, with the support needed to continue building a winning campaign as he runs for Iowa’s 3rd congressional district.

“At a time when the Republican majority has cemented their place as the least productive Congress in modern history, Iowans deserve a leader like Lanon, a combat veteran and public servant who’s spent his life serving his community,” said DCCC Chair Rep. Suzan DelBene. “While Zach Nunn pushes to restrict women’s reproductive freedoms and fails to deliver solutions to the challenges Iowans are facing, Lanon will bring effective, common sense leadership to Congress.”

Lanon Baccam is a first-generation American, born and raised in rural Iowa, who has dedicated his life to service. A combat veteran, Lanon enlisted in the Iowa National Guard when he was 17 before deploying to Afghanistan. After he returned, he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture supporting veterans transitioning to careers in agriculture and expanding high speed internet access across Iowa and the country.

While Lanon has a strong record of fighting for Iowans, Zach Nunn has been an agent of his party’s dysfunction and has pushed an extreme anti-abortion agenda. Nunn couldn’t be more out of step in one of the most evenly divided districts in the country, which was only decided by roughly 2,000 votes in 2022.

Red to Blue is a highly competitive and battle-tested DCCC program that arms top-tier candidates with organizational and fundraising support to help them continue building winning campaigns. Additionally, through Red to Blue the DCCC provides strategic guidance, staff resources, candidate trainings, and more.
