Too Late for Coffman to distance himself from Trump
Coffman said he would support Trump & has refused to denounce him when other Republicans had the courage to do so
Republicans are facing a stark reality: Donald Trump is the Republican Party’s nominee. As Congressman Coffman twists himself into a pretzel trying to separate himself from Trump, remember that he has vowed to support Donald Trump and has repeatedly refused to denounce his vicious attacks. The writing is on the wall: the Republican Party is falling apart, and with it, Coffman’s reelection chances.
Just look at the similarities between Coffman and Trump:
- Trump has disrespected women at every turn; Coffman has voted repeatedly to cut Planned Parenthood funding – a brazenly hypocritical and widely ridiculed move after using their logo in an ad last cycle.
- Trump said women should be punished for undergoing legal abortions; Coffman supports unconstitutional restrictions on a woman’s right to choose – including banning abortion in the cases of rape and incest and supporting the extreme “personhood” amendment that could ban certain forms of birth control.
- Trump called Mexicans rapists; Coffman said the DREAM Act would be a “nightmare” and is fighting to dismantle DACA and DAPA.
- Trump demanded that President Obama release his birth certificate; Coffman infamously said that the president is “not an American,” and in Trump fashion, refused to explain why he would say something so outrageously bigoted.
- Trump wants to ban all Muslims from entering the United States; Coffman attended a conference of the “nation’s leading anti-Muslim hate group” and refused to denounce Trump’s plan when asked about it.
Earlier this year several Latino Leaders blamed “Mike Coffman for Trump’s rise.” Last year State Representative Joe Salazar authored an op-ed titled: “Mike Coffman paved the way for anti-Immigrant Donald Trump.” Given the undeniable similarities between Coffman and Trump, it’s appropriate that they will have to share the ballot this November.
“After failing to disavow Donald Trump’s disturbing attacks on women, minorities, and people with disabilities, Congressman Coffman will have to face the consequences of sharing a ballot with Trump,” said DCCC Spokesman Tyler Law. “No matter how desperately Coffman tries to spin his indefensible support of Trump, the similarities between their records and statements are striking.”
In case you missed it, we recently released a video exposing the vile rhetoric espoused by House Republicans – Coffman included – that led to Donald Trump’s bigoted campaign.
