Latino Support for Trump Is Up for Grabs in California Farm Country [New York Times]

“Nearly eight in 10 [Hispanic voters] said that the Trump administration’s policies harm them”

New reporting from the New York Times further proves that Latino support for the Democratic party is strong, as voters who supported Trump and Republicans in 2024 reject this disastrous administration.

Economic concerns are the prime issue for voters as 68% of Hispanics say their situation has worsened in the past year, and 55% “have serious concerns about their place in the United States with Mr. Trump as president.” Latino voters are also expressing their regret with the administration’s overreach, Republicans’ broken promises, and the ongoing war that is making high prices even worse.

“‘I shouldn’t have listened,’ she [Frances Fernandez, 53] said, recalling when her husband and other friends urged her to vote for Mr. Trump. ‘There is still so much to worry about, and we just aren’t willing to face all that.’”

“‘Everything goes up except my pay,’ he [Jose Rivera, 24] said, adding that he was particularly angry that Mr. Trump was focused on other parts of the world and willing to start another war. He voted for Mr. Trump in 2024, the first time he had ever cast a ballot. ‘That’s not what this president promised. He sold us a great dream.’”

For House Democrats, earning the Latino vote is the key to winning back the House in the midterm elections. Throughout the past few months, Latinos have already “fueled important wins for Democrats in VirginiaNew Jersey and Texas elections.”

Even Speaker Mike Johnson has acknowledged Republicans had “a little hiccup with some Latino and Hispanic voters for certain,” — a complete understatement that shows how out of touch Republicans are.

DCCC Spokesperson Bridget Gonzalez:
“Republicans have rapidly thrown away their 2024 wins with Latino voters. After making countless empty promises, they’ve only made everyday life more expensive while ignoring the American people’s needs. Voters can’t wait to get rid of them.”
