Leaving House Republicans To Fend For Themselves, Trump Refuses to Promote His Big, Ugly Law On Campaign Trail

NEW POLL: GOP Tax Scam Remains Deeply Unpopular with Latino voters

Donald Trump has not held a single road event to highlight his Big, Ugly Law — which cuts Medicaid and guts rural hospitals to pay for massive tax breaks for Republicans’ billionaire donors — since he signed the partisan legislation into law this summer.

This news comes just days after the White House mounted a pressure campaign demanding that Congressional Republicans rebrand their megabill, as polling shows a disastrous drop in approval — with some noting it is the least popular legislation passed since 1990.

And just this morning, a new poll surveying 800 Hispanic and Latino registered voters nationwide underscored how grimly unpopular the Big, Ugly Law is with key voting blocs:

  • 74% of respondents oppose the Big, Ugly Law, including 62% who strongly oppose it.
  • 76% of respondents say cuts to Medicaid and food assistance raise concerns.
DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“House Republicans walked the plank for Donald Trump by voting for the largest cut to Medicaid in American history to bankroll more than a trillion in tax cuts for the ultra-rich. Now they’re left to fend for themselves. Trump knows what the rest of America has already concluded: the Big, Ugly Law is a political disaster, and there’s no coming back from their vote.”
