Lisa McClain Wants Americans to be Reminded Who Voted to Take Food Off Their Tables

ANSWER: Every single House Republican who voted for the Big, Ugly Bill!

Lisa McClain, the Chair of the House Republican Conference, encouraged the media to remind voters which party is responsible for cruelly voting to pass massive cuts to food assistance this year:

“Let’s make sure that we don’t forget and let’s make sure we remind them who voted to keep food on the table and who voted to take food off the table. Let’s hold them accountable for the votes they have taken.”

This summer, House Republicans – including the so-called moderates – voted to enact a $187 billion cut to SNAP – representing the largest cut to food assistance programs in American history in order to reward their billionaire donors with permanent tax breaks.

According to the nonpartisan CBO, about 4 million people, including children, seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, will see the food assistance they need to afford groceries terminated or cut substantially as a result of the Big, Ugly Law.

Now, Republicans are allowing over 40 million Americans to lose access to their food benefits as a result of the shutdown they started.

DCCC Spokesperson Justin Chermol:
“Good idea, Rep. McClain! The American people should know that House Republicans voted for the largest cut to food assistance in American history.”
