It’s been days since Donald Trump insulted a Gold Star family, drawing widespread condemnation from leaders across the country. Numerous House Republicans have perfected the non-response response by issuing statements that fail to even mention Donald Trump, let alone directly take him to task for his hateful comments and withdraw their support for his candidacy.
Turns out, that isn’t even close to the worst of the moral cowardice on display in the House Republican Conference. The list of vulnerable House Republicans who remain completely silent on Trump’s Khan family attacks is as extensive as it is disappointing.
According to a press report, even Trump’s campaign knows that he went too far, and asked elected officials for help on this issue. Shockingly, the below House Republicans have heeded the call by remaining silent. They are failing to even do the bare minimum – issuing a statement – in reaction to Trump’s un-American remarks.
“When Donald Trump insults the family of a fallen war hero, it is the responsibility of leaders to condemn his comments and his candidacy,” said Meredith Kelly of the DCCC. “The total silence of so many House Republicans in the wake of Trump’s attack on the Gold Star Khan family dramatically fails on both counts. This is not only reprehensible on a moral level, it’s further proof that House Republicans are willing to place party loyalty over the good of our country.”
