Lobbyist & GOP Candidate Claire Chase Called Trump “Unworthy of the Office” — Will She Still Be Invited to Tonight’s Rally?

GOP primary opponents Yvette Herrell and Chris Mathys say Chase’s comments show she “does not like President Trump”

President Trump is headed to New Mexico this evening and things could get awkward for lobbyist and GOP congressional candidate Claire Chase, who is under fire for recently uncovered comments she made blasting the President. According to newly discovered Facebook posts, Chase called Trump “an a**hole unworthy of the office” and “beyond offensive,” and said there were “836,297 reasons not to vote for him.”

Now, the revelations are raising questions about whether Chase will still be in attendance at Trump’s Rio Rancho rally this evening. Last week a spokesperson for Vice President Pence said he was “shocked” by Chase’s history of anti-Trump comments and was “completely unaware of them” before he appeared alongside her last month at an official event in New Mexico. The spokesperson also clarified that, despite Chase’s efforts to make voters think otherwise, neither the Vice President nor President Trump have offered their support for her candidacy. As Joe Monahan put it, “Chase’s train barely got on the track and it’s already in a wreck.”

With Chase’s GOP opponents already seizing on her comments, the question now is whether they will be enough to sink her candidacy. “I didn’t know Claire Chase harbored such disdain for President Trump,” 2018 nominee Yvette Herrell told the Associated Press. Chris Mathys, another Republican vying for the nomination added, “It’s obvious Claire does not like President Trump or conservative Republicans.”
