National Republicans might want Claudia Tenney, but local Republicans are rallying behind conservative candidate Martin Babinec.
That’s according to a new report that local Republicans leaders are throwing a fundraiser for Babinec. The list includes former Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and George Joseph, the Oneida County Legislature’s majority leader.
Babinec has made no bones about his true Republican colors.
He said he’d caucus with the House Republicans and support Paul Ryan as Speaker.
Babinec’s campaign manager is a former Trump staffer.
Babinec said that his most admired lawmaker was Rep. Justin Amash, a Tea Party Congressman from Michigan.
“There is a Republican civil war erupting between conservative candidates Martin Babinec and Claudia Tenney in New York’s 22nd Congressional District,” said Bryan Lesswing at the DCCC. “As Kim Myers talks to voters about bringing jobs back to Upstate New York, conservative candidates Martin Babinec and Claudia Tenney are pledging to caucus with House Republicans and fight for more gridlock and obstruction in Congress.”
