Anti-choice group National Right to Life Committee’s (NRLC) super PAC is investing in OR-05, going to bat for far-right Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Election Day approaches. NRLC knows that Chavez-DeRemer will push their extreme anti-choice agenda if sent to Congress, and this latest investment should send a stark warning to Oregon voters.
-
NRLC supports a nationwide abortion ban.
-
NRLC is pushing model legislation in states that would ban abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest.
-
NRLC’s general counsel, Jim Bopp, bragged about their model legislation that would allow states to force young girls to carry a rapist’s child to term, and even said NRLC hopes that child rape victims “would understand the reason and ultimately the benefit of having the child.”
-
NRLC wants to ban telemedicine for medical abortions, at a time when cancer patients and people with auto-immune diseases are unable to access their life-saving medication because anti-abortion extremists worry it could be used to terminate a pregnancy.
And it’s no wonder why this group is so invested in Chavez-DeRemer. She said she was encouraged by the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. She backs an extreme, near-total ban on abortion that would go even further than what Republicans proposed at the national level, banning abortion before most women even know they’re pregnant. She attacked Oregon’s comprehensive access to abortion, signaling her support for restrictions across the state.
NRLC’s investment in this races is yet another reminder that Chavez-DeRemer and House Republicans will ban abortion nationwide if given the opportunity.
DCCC spokesperson Teddy Lake:
“Out of 435 congressional races across the country, an anti-abortion group who wants to ban abortion nationwide chose to invest in Lori Chavez-DeRemer. This should send a clear message to OR-05 voters that, if elected, Chavez-DeRemer will work with her extreme Republican colleagues to ban abortion in every state.”
