The Supreme Court has officially overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminating the constitutional right to abortion for millions of women and undoing 50 years of precedent. It’s a future that Republicans like Lori Chavez-DeRemer have long been working towards – and now she will have to own up to her extreme, deeply unpopular positions.
Lori Chavez-DeRemer said she’s “encouraged to see the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade” and backs an extreme, near-total ban on abortion.
Make no mistake: Chavez-DeRemer and the Republican Party are on the wrong side of this issue. Polling conducted after the leak of the SCOTUS draft opinion overturning Roe shows: by a two-to-one margin, people oppose Roe being overturned; 80% of people believe abortion should be decided between a woman and her doctor; and nearly two-thirds of people oppose the GOP’s plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
Chavez-DeRemer will be held accountable for her party’s role in decimating women’s reproductive freedoms and their plan to institute a nationwide abortion ban.
DCCC spokesperson Johanna Warshaw:
“The stakes in this election could not be higher: Lori Chavez-DeRemer wants to implement an extreme, near-total ban on abortion. She couldn’t be more out of step with Oregonians – and we will remind Oregon voters of her cruel extremism every day until November.”
